I fell in love with the colours in the photograph of the flamingos. Such brightly coloured birds backed by a vivid sunset palette. So I decided to try to translate these colours into a fibre gradient. Easier said than done.

I have eventually produced a gradient made from 10 mini batts of beautifully soft merino fibres. The colours move from a blue violet shade, through pinky lilacs and golden hues to a soft gentle pink.

In total the 10 mini batts add up to 150g of fibre. If the batts are unrolled, and then split in half. Two singles can be made with the same colour transitions. These two singles can then be plied together to make a balanced 2 ply gradient yarn. Alternatively, one single could be spun as a gradient, the second could be split into shorter colour repeats to produce a fractal yarn. There are lots of exciting posibilities.

The merino fibres in these batts will felt. If you do not wish them to, hand wash in cool water.
