This colourway is based on an 1880 painting by a British French artist called Alfred Sisley (1839-1899). He maintained the impressionist painting style (mainly painting outside) throughout his life, and is most famous for painting tranquil landscapes in pale dusky shades.
The painting that I chose is called ‘Le Bois des Roches Veneux Nadon’ – a catchy title! This painting spoke to me as it reminds me of the many times I walked in the damp and cold during the Autumn and Winter, walking my dogs next to rivers and lakes. Not my favourite weather for walking, but young Labradors need their exercise – and they were never happier than when they could fling themselves with joyous abandon into cold, and preferably dirty water!
To warm up, on the way home, I often stopped at a farm café for a hot drink and cake, before returning home with exhausted and happily damp dogs. I loved the comfortable calm on our return, well fed, tired Labradors, sleeping on their backs with legs in the air, snoring gently, whilst I sat spinning.
This gradient is made completely of superfine 18.5 micron merino using gentle dusky shades of grey and teal. This will spin up to produce a beautiful yarn, soft and warm, wonterful for winter walks.
