I adore this colourway, and was asked if it could be made inot a single gradient. 

This gradient of 7 mini batts is identical in colours to the Antelope Canyon rolags. The rolags are deisgned to make a self striping yarn, this gradient batt set is designed to produce a single gradient moving from peach to violet. If you were to treat yourself to both the rolags AND the gradient, you could make a wonderful fractal yarn.

You will receive 7 mini batts made from 100% 21 micron merino, which together will add up to 100g.

I was asked to put together a gradient set that looks like Spooky Skies, but that was made for Shetland fibres. This colourway is not exactly the same as spooky skies, but it is still spooky! 

The gradient is made up from two natural shades of Shetland fibres and a purple dyed Shetland fibre. The fibres have been carefully blended, the Shetland fibres have a little more bounce, and are a little more open than merino, so the batts will be straightforward to draft and spin.

I was asked to put together a custom colourway for a friend. She gave me an outline of her ideas and the name of the colourway. I then played (sorry experimented) with these colours to make a gradient colourway. This is the result.

Each batt is 15g moving from gold through golden browns to red/brown, to purple then silver to deep conifer green to bright spring green. In total the colourway adds up to a minimum of 195g of lovely, soft 21 micron merino.

This colourway can be made with coordinating Angelina or without.

I normally travel the three miles to the post office at least once most days. It is a lovely drive, with the lakeland fells to the left hand side, the Solway Firth and the Scottish hills to my right, and on a good day, the Isle of Man straight ahead. Part of my journey passes the old NATO ammunition depot, which I am certain must be an absolute haven for wildlife. It has been closed to the public and development for the whole of my lifetime. I enjoy watching the changes in the woodlands that have been allowed to grow there.

I found that there was a rose called the 'Bloom of Ruth' and was blown away by the beauty of that bloom. In memory of a dear friend with that name I decided to make a very special blend. As the rose only has the centre petals coloured pink, I decided to make a new type of gradient with the batts becoming progressively larger as we moved through the colours.

These rolags were designed for the Rolags Club. The inspiration was 'Nature's Wonders' -and the photograph used was one of Antelope Canyon in Arizona during the sunset. During this time of the day, the sandstone turns the most amazing shades.

These rolags are made from soft 21 micron merino, which is carefully blended into 7 different shades. These colours are then put onto the blending board and made into gradient rolags.

Daffodils and Narcissus blooms are my absolute favourite flowers. Their bright and cheery flowers herald the height of spring, as they 'flutter and dance' in the breeze!

I have taken the bright, bold colours of the Narcissus in wonderfully soft 21 micron merino, then blended them with a blend of superfine merino and cashmere, topping the whole blend off with mulberry silk. The yarn made from this fibre will be luciously soft, warm, and will still drape and shimmer due to the addition of silk.

This gradient inspiration photo makes me think of those long, hot summer days during summer holidays past. When it felt like September, and school, were a whole lifetime away.

The Abalone colourway was put together for the first FVF Rolag Club. The theme for this colourway was Nature's Jewels. I adore the iridescent colours of the polished abalone shell. 

These rolags are made up from beautifully soft 21 micron merino in shades of lilac, greens, blues and turquoise. Added to this are low lights made from bably llama fibres, and highlights from lashings of mulberry silk fibres.

You will recieve 100g of rolags in this colourway.

The merino fibres in this blend will felt. If you do not wish them to, hand wash in cool water.

I was asked to make a 12 batt set based on the Chakra colours. This is the set that I came up with. The colours start with violet blue moving through bright pinks, red, orange, yellow, green and finalyy back to blue again.

Each batt is 20g of blended 21 micron merino. Together the batts make up a total of 240g of lovely soft, fluffy merino.

The merino fibre will felt. If you do not wish it to, hand wash in cool water.

This gradient batt set was inspired by photographs of the Milky Way in the night sky, in areas of very little light pollution. The Milky Way, our galaxy is thought to hold upto about 400 billion stars which together look spectacular in the night sky.

This blend is made from 75% 21 micron merino in shades of jade and blue, blended with 25% ramie and a sprinkling of silver Angelina. 

I saw this wonderful photograph of autumnal reflections. I knew that I had to turn it into a gradient!

The gradient is made from 2/3 wonderfully soft 21 micron merino carefully blended with 1/3 tussah silk. This high proportion of silk will make the blend more straightforward to spin, due to the longer staple length of the silk. The silk also lends the blend, and so any resulting yarm, a fantastic shimmer and drape.

Based on the beautiful photograph of the sun, I have taken merino in vivid shades of yelow and orange and blended them carefully with tussah silks and golden Angelina for a little sparkle. The ratio of merino to silk is 75% merino : 25% silk. The addition of the silk will make the rolags a little easier to spin, due to the longer staple length of the silk. Also the silk will give the resulting yarn extra shimmer and drape.

A good coffee drunk in good company is a true luxury.

These batts made in the Cafe au Lait colourway reflect this luxury. The fibres used in this colourway are 21 micron merino, tussah silk and two shades of eri silk - red eri and yellow eri - some truely luxurious fibres!

Each batt is carefully blended three times through a drum carder, to ensure that the silks and merino are evenly blended throughout.

This colourway was the first made for the 2017-2018 rolag club.

The theme was 'Simply Natural'. All of the fibres in this blend therefore are natural colours.

All of the fibres used in these rolags are of the highest quality and are supersoft. The base is superfine white merino fibres. Then the colours of the barn owl were built up using baby camel fibres, red eri silk, muga silk and the beautiful steel grey penduncle silk.

You will recieve 100g of rolags in the Nightstalker colourway.

This batt is based on the colours of a white wolf. However, the primary inspiration was a character called Angua - a blonde werewolf who works in the City Watch. She has the uncanny ability to extract information from suspects just by smiling with her preternaturally wide smile!

I used to the photograph of the pale wolf to help me identify the correct colours for this handpulled roving. All of the fibres in this bend are naturally coloured and are soooooo soft. The fibres used are;

18.5 micron Falkland fibre - to give plenty loft and bounce to the blend

A dark, woodland scene, with the moon shining from behind the clouds, giving off an earie pinky purple hue. This gradient is made from beaufully soft 21 micron merino in shades of beige/ grey moving through purple to the deepest brown/black shade. You will recieve 7 hand blended batts of fibre, which together make up just over 100g of fibre.

The merino in this blend will felt. If you do not wish it to, hand wash in cool water.

The inspiration for these hand pulled roving nests comes from the Tour de France. Our thoughts turn to 'le Tour' as spinners enjoy spinning along - as the cyclists race through the French countryside. Thus formed the 'Tour de Fleece'.

The name AVEC comes from the author Terry Pratchett who wrote;

"Say what you like, the food in the Quirm Watch House canteen was pretty damn good, even if they did use a shade too much avec, thought Vimes; avec on everything."

The running joke being that people thought that avec was an actual ingredient ....garlic :-D

Monet spent the final three decades of his life painting over 100 paintings of water lilies. I have taken the colour palette for this painting and converted it into a gradient batt set.

Each of the mini batts is carefully blended 21 micron merino. The batts can be unrolled, and then ripped into pieces. This means that you can make a gradient yarn with as many plies as you wish - all you have to do is to spin each bobbin with the same order of colours.

Ever since being asked to blend some fibres to represent the transition from a cygnet to a swan I have been plotting some special blends based on a Swan and her cygnets. The mute swan is a large, territorial bird who will attack even humans when they think their young are threatened.
