Recently I managed to get hold of a small amount of 15.5 micron merino. I was stunned when I put my hand in the bag! It felt so soft, easily as soft as the cashmere that I have in stock. So, I excitedly took a small amount to spin up. Well, it was a joy to spin! Not only is it beautifully soft, but it has a longer staple length than I am used to in fine merino, and this made it so much easier to spin. The final photograph shows my test skein, before its bath. I got 172m from 22g, and it still feels amazingly soft.
After asking for ideas on my Ravelry group about what to do with the limited amount of the merino, I was sent some gorgeous photos of ragdoll kittens - as they symbolised just how soft the fibre is.
I did not want to to blend this beautiful merino fibre with anything that would detract from the softness of the fibre, but the colours of the kittens just screamed yak and camel. So, I carefully blended up some yak fibre with the merino and some baby camel with the merino, which maintained the softness of the fibre.
I then made these batts into these beautiful rolags - which will spin up fine.
Some of the rolags have had a single streak of blue mulberry silk added, as the silk is the same shade as the eyes on the kittens. You can choose whether you have the silk added ot not - you will not get a mixture of both.
Due to the inclusion of some very fine and expensive fibres, and because the blending takes a considerable time to make certain that the blends are even and do not get spoiled with nepps, I have decided to give the option of purchasing this colourway in 50g lots.
The handspun fibre is not included in this listing, it is only pictured to show how the merino spins up so fine.
